I have a 5 month old male boxer and I am having trouble with him letting me know when he has the urge to go. He does not give me any signs to go on until it is too late. He will sneak off somewhere in the house and go. What can I do to get him to let me know when it is time to take him outside?

This is great! I’m self-training my own service dog (with the help of a pro) and this is incredibly helpful, no more interrupted conversations because she needs to go while we’re inside. Thanks!

Why not make it …
Why not make it simple? As soon as the dog begins to seem unsettled, put it outside in the yard; *As soon as* it does its business, praise it with ALOT of love and attention, even better… Give it a couple treats

you shouldn’t hug a …
you shouldn’t hug a dog until you’ve had them for a really long time, it shows they have dominance and it’s what the dog would consider “fighting words” once you have a dog for awhile and you’ve established your position as alpha then it’s alright.
But repetition is key I agree.

My black lab puppy …
My black lab puppy is only 5 -6 weeks old and I took him outside and told him to “Get Busy”. Well he got busy. I gave him lots of praise. It’s amazing - every time I take him outside and tell him to “Get Busy”, he goes right away. My husband and I were shocked at how fast he learned this.

One thing I forgot …
One thing I forgot to add. I’ve watched quite a few of these vids and I’m really surprised that these trainers giving advice (and some are very very good) but they’re not STRESSING………repetition, repetition, repetition. Everything that you teach your dog. ie heel, sit, stay, lay, back, up, down, (what-ever), are all unnatural to the canine. Reward your dog when he completes a task. Lots of love and hugs. And don’t over work your dog. All of this is stressful for your dog. Dont add to it.

The first book I …
The first book I ever had on dog training was “The Koehler Method of Guard Dog Training” by William Koehler. In (about) 9 months time, I had one of the most obedient dogs ever. But thanks to Mr. Koehler, I had one problem. My dog was TERRIFIED of me. His method of training was brutal! It didn’t take me long to understand THIS was not the system I would use for the next 25 years. I only train a few dogs each year for a select few and there’s no other job in the world I’d rather have.
